Gather The Family Together at Mealtimes

Making Placemats

Even if your kids are too young to help you cook, they can be a part of every mealtime with this classic craft. All you need is some construction paper, tape, and clear contact paper.

1. Let your kids pick out their favorite colors of construction paper. For holiday placemats, use the appropriate colors — red, white and blue for July 4th, black and orange for Halloween.
2. Cut 10 strips, approximately 2 inches wide and 24 inches long. Lay them down side by side, and use a piece of tape to hold them together.
3. Cut 12 more strips of paper, about 2 inches by 24 inches, and weave them through the strips from step.
4. Cover both sides with contact paper.
5. Watch the look of pride appear on your child’s face.
