Tonight it’s all hands on deck! Forget the paintbrush, tonight we’re getting creative with homemade finger paint. As you prepare a mouthwatering fondue dish, the kids can stay busy using all ten fingers to showcase their creative abilities. Then, everyone gathers around the table for a delicious meal to share their masterpieces!

Activity: Make Your Own Finger Paints

Making finger paint from scratch is surprisingly easy and a great way to involve kids in all parts of the craft process. Once you get those thumbs going, try switching off posing for and painting family portraits!

Finger Paint Recipe

YOU’LL NEED:

½ cup cornstarch

½ cup cold water

2 cups boiling water

food coloring

small jars or cups

INSTRUCTIONS:

Bring 2 cups water to boil in small saucepan. Combine cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl and mix until cornstarch dissolves in water, then add to saucepan of boiling water. Mix over heat until mixture has thickened to the desirable consistency.

Divide mixture evenly into cups or jars. Add food colors and mix well. Let finger paint cool before using.

Note: Although this recipe is non-toxic, it should not be consumed.

Recipe: Ranch Fondue

Serves: 6–8

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 3–5 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

16 ounces soft American cheese, diced

1 cup milk

1 tablespoon Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix

Assorted fruits and vegetables, for dipping

Diced crusty bread or crackers, for dipping

INSTRUCTIONS:

Place cheese, milk and ranch seasoning in microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well in between each cooking period, until cheese has completely melted, about 3–5 minutes total.

Transfer cheese to a fondue pot and light candle to keep warm. Serve fondue with assorted crusty bread, fruits and vegetables for dipping.
