If you’re fixated on achieving the perfect crispy chicken, pork or pickle (trust us, it’s delicious), you’ve come to the right place. Simply Dinners™ Breading Prep Kits make breading your favorite foods super simple. And these expert tips will let you plus-up the standard dip/coat/bake method so you can nail the perfect crust every time.
Double Dip
For an extra crispy crust, dip ingredients into the egg wash and press into breadcrumbs. Then dip back into the egg wash and breadcrumbs a second time.
Flour First
Flour helps breadcrumbs adhere and creates a thicker crust. Just pour flour onto a shallow plate, and dredge your food in it before moving to the first tray with the egg wash. Then finish by coating in crumbs.
Upper Crust
Add breadcrumbs to one tray. Drizzle with melted butter or olive oil and mix until the crumbs are well coated. Press the crumbs onto the top of fish, chicken or steak, or sprinkle over vegetables before baking.
Get Toasty
For a darker, crispier finish, toast the crumbs in a dry, nonstick pan until golden before finishing the breading process. Drizzle with olive oil or melted butter before baking.
Chill Out
If you have time, let your breaded ingredients rest uncovered in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to an hour. This will give the breading time to dry out a bit and ensure a crispier crust.
Lose the Egg
Don’t want to use eggs? A different liquid or sauce—like olive oil, buttermilk or mayonnaise—can be used in place of the egg wash in the first tray.
Double Down on Ranch
Use Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® dressing in place of the egg wash in the first tray. Dip the ingredients into the dressing, shake off the excess and press into breadcrumbs.
Add It Up
Add ingredients to the crumbs to change it up. Crushed pretzels, chia seeds, flax seeds, tortilla crumbs, nuts or even shredded coconut can create infinite new options.
